Autobiography

Sean Manning grew up on the west coast of Canada, moved to Calgary to write a Master’s thesis on the revolt of Cyrus the Younger (2013), and moved to Austria where he was awarded a PhD in November 2018 at the Universität Innsbruck for his work on the Achaemenid empire. As of 2023 he is an affiliated researcher with the Department of Greek and Roman Studies at the University of Victoria. His words on this blog are his own opinion, backed by his judgment as a scholar not by any organization or institution.

Aside from work for locals he also does freelance editing, copyediting, translation (German to English, Latin to English), and basic web, Unix, and FOSS services such as website upgrades. Contact me to discuss specific projects!

Hi there! I nominated you for a Liebster Award, for excellent bloggers with less than 200 followers. https://ascholarlyskater.wordpress.com/2015/03/28/the-liebster-award/

Thank you. I might devote a post in April to answering those eleven questions, and I will check out the other blogs.

Greetings. I’m Persian Boge from pothos. Your blog is quite interesting to read. I am also in Germany working on a project about Alexander the Great. Maybe we can exchange emails.

Hi my name is Herry Chen from Vancouver, BC. I have recently read your article on reconstructing Hoplite fighting from Ancient Warfare magazine and being really interested in this topic. I am also a longsword practitioner and would like to know if there is anything I can offer to your research or if I can learn more about Hoplite fighting from you. Please let me know.

Hi Herry, thanks for your questions. I will try to send an email to your Yahoo address in the next few days.
